Tutorial: Gold Text (Photoshop CC)

  1. Create a new project
    ….File > New (Width: 1000; Height: 500)
  2. Make sure your foreground color is a light gray (I used 959594) and using ALT + DEL fill the project with gray
  3. Choose the Horizontal Type Tool and open the Character Box to choose your text (I used: Cooper Black; 300 pt; Color: b99907) and type out your text
  4. Choose the Move Tool and center the text
    ….CTRL+A
    ….Align Vertical
    ….Align Horizontal
  5. Delete the selection (CTRL + D)
  6. Make sure the Text Layer is active and click on the fx icon to open the Layer Style Panel
  7. Click on Bevel and Emboss
    ….Style: Inner Bevel
    ….Technique: Smooth
    ….Depth: 500
    ….Direction: Up
    ….Size: 20
    ….Check Anti-Aliased
    ….Gloss Contour: Ring
    ….Opacity: 90
  8. Click on Contour
    ….Range: 70
  9. Click on Inner Glow
    ….Color: Bright Yellow (I used f8fb05)
    ….Opacity: 60
    ….Choke: 50
    ….Size: 50
  10. Click on Satin
    ….Color: Yellow-Green (I used 828442)
    ….Blend Mode: Soft Light
  11. Click on Gradient Overlay
    …Click on the Black to Transparent Gradient Overlay
    ……..Double-Click on the Orange (right) Stop and change the color to a Gray-Yellow (I used 707127)
    ……..Double-Click on the Orange (left) Stop and change the color to a lighter Gray-Yellow (I used 7c7954)
    ……..Click anywhere underneath the Gradient to make another Stop and change the Location to 50%
    ……..Double-Click on the Yellow (middle) Stop and change the color to a Gray-Brown (I used c4b287)
    ……..Click on the Upper-Right Stop and change the Opacity to 100%
    ….Blend Mode: Screen
    ….Opacity: 30
    ….Style: Reflected
  12. Click on Pattern Overlay
    ….Rock Patterns (under the dropdown menu next to the gear icon)
    ….Blend Mode: Overlay
    ….Pattern: Stone (or your choice)
  13. Click on Drop Shadow
    ….Color: Black
    ….Distance: 40
    ….Spread: 30
    ….Size: 25
