Do you need a star collectible for your game?
In this Blender tutorial I will show you how to use Blender to make a star collectible along with a simple animation in Blender.
Star Object
The first place to start is making the star
I use an empty to bring in a reference image
I add a plane and rotate it around the X-Axis 90-degrees
To make things easier, in edit mode, I scale the plane to the same size as the reference image
In wireframe mode, I use the knife tool and cut out a star from the plane
In solid mode, I delete the unneeded faces
In side view, I extrude the star to add some thickness
Using the overlays menu, I check to see if the normals are facing the right way
If the object is red then I need to flip the normals using ALT + N
I add a small bevel to the star
In object mode, I shade the star smooth and turn on auto smooth
I am going to add some eyes to the star
I add a cylinder with 16 vertices and a triangle fan cap
I rotate the cylinder around the X-Axis 90-degrees and scale it along the X-Axis
I then scale the cylinder to its final size and place it on the star
I add a mirror modifier to the eye
In edit mode, I scale the eye along the Y-Axis and move it into final position [0.25]
I then inset the front faces and scale them down to form a highlight for the eye
I place the highlight toward the top of the eye
In object mode, I shade the eyes smooth and turn on auto smooth
I again check to make sure all of the normals are facing the correct direction
Materials
Now I can add materials
For the star, I will use a golden yellow for the base color [#C3B45C]
I will use the same color for the emission and turn the strength down
I select the eye and in edit mode, I add a dark gray for material for the eyes with a roughness of 1.0
I then select the highlight and assign a second eye material that is white with a roughness of 1.0
Animation
Now I can move on to the animation
In object mode, I apply the mirror modifier and join both parts of the star
I set the origin to the center of mass (volume) so the star will rotate from its center
In the animation workspace I clear the rotation and location of the camera with ALT R and ALT G
I then rotate and move the came into position
Under the output properties tab, I make sure I have my frame rate set to 30 fps
On frame 1, I move the star down along the Z-Axis and insert a keyframe for location, rotation, and scale
On frame 10, I move the star back to its original position and insert a keyframe for location, rotation, and scale
I copy the keyframes from frames 1 and 10 onto frames 20 and 30
I also copy the keyframes from frame 1 onto frame 40
On frame 60, I rotate the star around the Z-Axis 720-degrees and add a keyframe for location, rotation, and scale
I copy the keyframes from frame 1 onto frame 61 – this will make a smooth looping animation
I change the end frame to 60 – this will give me a 2 second animation
