In this tutorial I will show you how to make your own old painted wood material in Substance Painter for your project.
Texture
I will start with a wood base that I made in a previous tutorial
I open the wood material and select the first grain layer
I make sure the height channel is selected
I increase the height for this particular layer
I need to do this so the wood texture will show underneath the paint layer
I repeat this process for the other two grain layers
I add a fill layer and rename it to paint base
Under the materials panel, I will change the base color to a pale blue [#ABB7B8]
I change the roughness to 0.4 since I want to indicate this is old paint which has lose some of its shininess
I also change the height to 0.05
I use CTRL + D to duplicate this layer and rename it to paint variation
I will change the color to a light green [#A0B8A8]
To mix these two color together, I right-click and add a black mask to this layer
I right-click on the black mask and add a fill layer
I select the grayscale option and search for grunge plaster paint and choose the first one
I will decrease the balance to 0.25
I change the blend mode to tint and then decrease the balance
Saving
I rename the folder that contains my paint layer and the filters layers and the wood layer
I can now right-click on the folder and create a smart material
