How to make your own stylized wood material | Substance Painter

Do you need an easy way to make your own stylized wood material?

In this tutorial I will show you how to make your own stylized wood material in Substance Painter for your project.

Texture

I will start with a sculpted wood plank that I made in Blender

I will import the low-poly plank and bake the texture maps

I add a fill layer and rename it to base

Under the materials panel, I will change the color to a light-brown [#7D5A25]

I turn off the height, metal, emissive, and opacity channels

I add a new fill layer and rename it to curvature

I select the fill and choose a slightly lighter color than the base color [#AA8349]

I right-click and add a black mask

I right-click on the black mask and add a generator

I open the generator options and choose “curvature”

I also turn off the height, metal, emissive, and opacity channels

I add a new fill layer and rename it to dirt

I change the base color to a light brown [#BD9B68]

I also turn off the height, metal, emissive, and opacity channels

I right-click and add a black mask

I right-click on the black mask and add a generator

For the generator, I will choose “dirt”

I will change “use custom grunge” to true

Under the textures, I will search for grunge

I then drag the “grunge dusty powder soft” onto the custom grunge option

I change the balance to 0.8

I decrease the grunge amount [0.2]

Saving

I make a new folder to contain my layers and rename it

I drag my layers into the folder

I can now right-click on the folder and create a smart material
