In this tutorial, I will show you how to make a junk pile prop using the scatter objects add-on in Blender for your project.
Set Up
This tutorial assumes you know the basics of using Blender
You can quickly make a junk pile prop using the built-in Scatter Objects Add-on
Import the OBJ scene that you downloaded from Sketchfab
Under the Shading Workspace, use the Node Wrangler add-on and apply the textures
Delete the AO Texture Map because you won’t need it in Blender
Scatter
Back in the Layout Workspace, go into Material Preview so you can see your textures
Select everything and move them to the left so they were out of your way
Right-click on the objects and set the Origin to Geometry
For the ground, add a Plane and scale it
Give it a simple dark brown color for the Material
In Edit Mode, add a couple Edge Loops and add a Bevel
In Object Mode, apply the Transforms
Select all of the objects you downloaded and then SHIFT-select the Plane
Under the Object menu, select the Scatter Objects option
Then paint over the Plane
Under the Tools panel, make adjustments to the Density, Scale, etc.
Once you are happy with the selection, hit the ENTER-key
Once you’ve done this, you cannot make further changes using the add-on but you can make changes in Edit Mode
