Soften Lights (Soft Box) | Blender 4.1 [Cycles]

In this quick tip I will show you how to quickly and easily soften the lights in your Blender scene

Soften Lights

I will show you how to quickly and easily soften the lights in your Blender scene

The basis for this is the soft box light which uses a filter to diffuse the light and soften the harshness of lights upon objects

I have a very basic scene set up in Blender

If I add an Area Light and rotate it, when I increase the power, you will see a hot spot on the object

In order to soften this hot spot, I add a Plane and place it in front of the Light

I will then parent the Plane to the Light – this makes it easier to adjust the Light

I select the Plane and add a Translucent BSDF material to it

In Cycles, you can see that the hot spot has softer edges
